Never Say Never, Dad

“Dad, you wanna go to the Justin Bieber movie with me?” asked my daughter the other day.

I am so accustomed to doing any number of non-traditional “dad” things with my daughter – and I’ve always valued that. But a Justin Bieber movie?

I thought she was teasing. But she wasn’t. So we went.

And to make matters worse, it was 3D. No, to make matters even worse, we were alone in the theater. I was sure this was going to be one of those moments I’d look back and laugh at as yet one more stupid-dad-moment.

That was until about five seconds in to the movie.

I’m not sure if it was the advancement in 3D since the last time I watched a movie with goofy glasses (Reagan was president I think), the upbeat music, the seemingly pretty admirable group of people that surround this kid, or just looking at the story of this young man through the eyes of my average dad eyes.

But I liked it.

There. I said it.

Who knows, maybe in our world of one young star after another going bad, perhaps this young guy will do well. I hope he does. I really do.

And don’t worry, I promise not to be hanging out in the front row of one of his concerts anytime soon. But I kind of have a little Bieber Fever.
